The Spanish public administration offers the biggest raffle in the world!

The jackpot of the biggest raffle in the world
The Spanish Christmas Lottery is an annual raffle locally known as Loteria De Navidad or El Gordo (o'The Big' in English) de Navidad (Christmas). Created in 1812, it has been held every year during Chistmas holiday season for more than 200 years. This raffle is considered the largest lottery in the world thanks to the 2.38 billion euros it distributes combined to 1 in 6.5 to win a prize and more than 26 million winning plots!
A bit of History
The first draw of the El Gordo de Navidad took place in December 1812 in the city of Cadiz in order to collect more tax revenues. Since then, it has been organized by the Spanish public administration. The first draw in Madrid dates back to 1874, and from then on it became the official draw of the national lottery of Spain.
The balls of the Spanish Christmas Lottery are drawn differently from other more classic models: students of San Ildefonso College draw the numbers by singing them to the public from the lobby of the National Lottery of Madrid!
How it works
The Loteria Nacional prints more than 100,000 tickets (ticketes) each with a five-digit code between 00000 and 99999. Due to the popularity of the game, each ticket has 180 copies. This ticket is then divided into 10 parcels called "Decimos" which can be bought individually. This format explains the large number of plots sold for the December 22 draw.
(100,000 tickets x 170 copies) x 10 parcels = 170 million parcels.
Winning at the Loteria De Navidad, what it means?
The Lotería de Navidad - El Gordo offers the largest prize pool in the world of 2.38 billion euros in 2017. The largest amount of this draw is 4 million euros, with an incredible odds of 1: 100 000 to win this award. A player with the ten parcels of a winning 1st prize ticket can claim the jackpot of 4 million euros. The Lotería de Navidad will award a total of 680 million euros in jackpot to 170 tickets with the winning draw code.
Overall, the prizes will be awarded to 15,304 tickets in each series, which means that 1 ticket out of 6.5 will be winning!
Nearly 98% of Spaniards participate in this Christmas lottery, whether they are regular lotto players or not. It is estimated that 24 million plot owners will collect a prize through one of 15,304 winning combinations per draw.
The number of tickets is limited and despite the official closing date of ticket sales on theLotter fixed on December 21, it is recommended to buy your parcel or ticket as soon as possible.

Rachel Lapierre, a lottery winner set up Le Book Humanitaire in order to finally realize her dream which is simply to make others life easier.
It happened to everyone to think about to do in case of winning the lottery and obvisouly most of the time the answers are around expensive material things such as a very expensive car, villa, travelling etc.
But there should be very few people who would straightforward think about other people with no hesitation. It what the former Miss Quebec did in 2013. The former model who also work as a nurse has always had Mother Theresa as an example to follow. Indeed, she admired the concept of a life dedication to charity.
One day, she played to a local lottery without even thinking she could possibly win but she won a lifetime salary of C$1,000 (£605) a week in the Quebecois lottery "Gagnant à vie", or "winner for life".
She couldn't believe it but remained quiet and keep being loyal to her dream: "I wanted to do something I loved for the rest of my life. I wanted to help others," she says.
Few months late she started her new charity program, Le Book Humanitaire.
Le Book Humanitaire is located in Saint-Jerome, not far from Montreal. As one can notice Le book humanitaire's logo looks like the Facebook one and it is because it uses social network to connect people willing to help and people who need help.
On its Facebook page, which has 22,000 followers, those who are struggling can let the community know about their plight.
Le Book Humanitaire donates food to people who can't afford it among other things. She explained that she invested $70,000 to date.
"This weekly C$1,000 I get from the lottery allows me to not go to work anymore and finance my organisation," she says.
She is now able to devote herself to her non-profit organization because she knows that every month she receives a fixed amount to live with.
What a beautiful story of someone who devoted herself to people in need thanks to the lottery prize she won!
